Lenses for Hispano-Suiza H6C car
We would like to share with you one of our very unique projects. We had the honour of manufacturing a glass lens for a Hispano-Suiza H6C car with a wooden body, which was manufactured in 1924.
This car has a very colourful past. After just one year of use, it found its way to Scotland via the son of perfume magnate Roland Coty, ending up with Alexander Keller, heir to the marmalade empire. Keller drove the car for a while, but then put it into a storage, and it was not rediscovered until 1950. Unfortunately, during World War II, the hood of the car was damaged in a bombing raid. The car was then purchased by Mr. Rodney Rorestier-Walker, who had it repaired and replaced the original Blériot headlights with Lucidus units. He enjoyed the car for six years before selling it to Gerald Albertini, heir to Standard Oil, who had the car thoroughly renovated. The car then changed hands again among wealthy businessmen and various elite figures in the US and Europe. It was last available at an RM Sotheby’s auction in 2022. There, it was purchased by Penny and Lee Anderson for an incredible $9,245,000, and they restored the car to its original condition. It was on this occasion that our glass lenses were created. Only two pieces of glass lenses were manufactured for this unique car.
We cooperated on the project with RM Auto Restoration, who participated on the unique reconstruction. The glass lenses had to resemble the 1924 originals as closely as possible. Since then, manufacturing technology has changed, and today’s automotive optical components are too “perfect” in terms of quality and colour. We searched for possibilities to get as close as possible to the historical appearance. The result exceeded our expectations.
The car rightly won the competition for the best vintage car at this year’s Pebble Beach show, beating 229 other vintage cars.
This project shows that our company not only provides serial deliveries of tens or hundreds of thousands of pieces, but also works on projects where the ordered quantity is significantly smaller. Please do not hesitate to contact us with your requests.
